HISTORY OF THE HAGERMAN FIRE DEPARTMENT: Our Mission Statement: The mission of the volunteers of the Hagerman Fire Department shall be to preserve life and property in the Hagerman Fire District and surrounding areas through mutual aid requests, in case of fire, rescue or any other emergency.
Who Are We? In the Spring of 1930, five men joined together to form a fire protection company called the Hagerman Fire Department. These men went out and purchased a used 1914 Brockway fire truck that was for sale and started their dream of establishing a fire protection agency. Many years later in 1953 the department was moved from a small building on Donegan Avenue over to a bigger building at 1309 Montauk Highway. After a 49 year stay, it was decided that a new building was needed and was built at 510 Ralph T. Perry Drive and opened its doors in January of 2002.
Hagerman now responds out of a new "Modern" firehouse equipped with 10 bays and sits on 40 acres of property. Located on the property is several training facilities such as a live fire burn building, a confined space simulator, firefighter bailout training facility, building collapse trailer, and a vehicle fire and extrication pad. The property also has a race track for hosting competitions in the New York State Fire Department Drill Team Association and also includes a beautiful Family Park and Department Museum.
What We Do... Today the Hagerman Fire Department protects the community of East Patchogue on the south shore of Suffolk County approximately 60 miles east of New York City. With 125 members and over sixty of those being active volunteer Firefighters to help provide Fire & Rescue services answering approximately 400 alarms annually, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The department covers a district over 15 square miles of both residential and commercial property. This area includes Brookhaven Memorial Hospital which is a 4 story community Hospital and Level II Trauma center, several adult living facilities and medical parks, and three schools.
We Save Lives... To maintain our highest standards and expertise in handling any emergency situation, we hold weekly drills which will range from lectures to live fire and rescue scenarios either in our own training facility or at the Suffolk County Fire Academy.
